Her mother was released after finishing her sentence, and began tracking her down to reclaim her. Rosa's grandmother went under witness protection and moved from state to state, until 1999 when Rosa's mother was arrested again, for stalking people who she thought to be Rosa's grandmother or defender, and for driving stolen vehicles across state lines.
